Your Complete Guide to Pursuing MBBS in Bangladesh

Overview of Bangladesh

Bangladesh sits in South Asia, bordered almost entirely by India, with a short frontier with Myanmar to the southeast and the Bay of Bengal to the south. Its capital, Dhaka, is the country’s academic and administrative hub and home to most of the leading medical colleges international students consider.

Geography & Cities:
Dhaka is the main destination for MBBS aspirants, hosting the largest concentration of government and private medical colleges. Other notable education hubs include Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet.

Climate:
Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate. Summers (April–September) run warm and humid, typically 30°C, while winters (November–March) are mild, cooling to the low 20s°C — a climate close to what Indian students are already used to.

Culture:
Bangladesh shares deep historical and cultural ties with the Indian subcontinent — similar food, festivals, and social customs — which makes the transition easier for Indian and South Asian students compared with studying in a completely unfamiliar culture.

Getting There:
Being a neighbouring country, travel costs are low. A flight to Dhaka from India typically costs a fraction of what it costs to fly to Europe or Central Asia, and overland options (bus/train between Kolkata and Dhaka) also exist.

Why Bangladesh Is a Great Option for MBBS Students

Affordable Medical Education: Total tuition for the full MBBS programme is relatively affordable compared to many study-abroad destinations, while living costs remain low.

Recognised Degrees: Bangladeshi medical degrees are recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), and bodies such as ECFMG (USA) and FAIMER — meaning graduates can sit for licensing exams like FMGE (India), USMLE (USA), and PLAB (UK) pathways.

Structured Study Pattern: The programme follows a clear structure — a 5-year academic programme followed by a mandatory 1-year rotating internship, in line with NMC’s guidelines for medical degrees earned abroad.

English-Medium Instruction: Classes are conducted in English, so there’s no language barrier to overcome before starting coursework, even though Bengali is the official language.

No Donation / Capitation Fees: Admission is merit- and document-based; there’s no requirement for large donations that are common at some private colleges elsewhere.

Straightforward Admission Process: There’s no separate entrance test conducted by the colleges — admission is based on NEET qualification and academic eligibility, which keeps the process simple and transparent.

Important: Always confirm that a college is currently recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) before taking admission. NMC’s list of approved foreign medical institutions is updated from time to time, and Indian government policy on recognized colleges/countries for MBBS abroad can change without notice. Please verify the latest NMC status directly with us or on the official NMC website before finalizing any admission decision.
